How the Upcoming Cricket Season Will Help the Online Betting Industry in India

Introduction

The first half of 2021 has been quite rough for pretty much everyone. And it was no different for the IPL 2021, which was cancelled soon after it began, much to the disappointment of the cricket fans worldwide. The IPL 2021 was suspended on May 4, following reports of COVID-19 cases from the team members in four of the eight franchises.

But luckily, the second half of 2021 seems to be looking packed with cricket tournaments and series to look forward to. With the IPL 2021 now planned for September to October as well as the T20 World Cup planned for sometime right after, the world of cricket seems to be picking up rather quickly.

IPL 2021 and T20 World Cup To Be Held in The Later Half of The Year

The IPL 2021 is set to be held in the United Arab Emirates, as confirmed by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), “between September 19 and October 15”. There are 31 matches still left to be played, after the league was suspended with only 29 matches having been played.

However, the conclusion of the IPL 2021 on October 15 is cutting quite close to the beginning of the T20 World Cup, which is rumored to begin right after the IPL finishes. Although these dates are yet to be confirmed by the International Cricket Council (ICC), the tentative date seems to be October 18.

Thus, with so many cricket seasons to look forward to, we can expect a guaranteed boost in the number of users that will again be engaging in fantasy cricket as well as online betting operations.

With such a passionate cricket fan following as is found in India, it is no wonder that fantasy cricket as well as the use of cricket betting sites has always seemed to be quite popular in the country. In fact, 2020 saw a huge surge in the success of online gaming and betting apps, perhaps due to an increased access to online mobile apps even in the lower sections of the Indian population.

The Impact of IPL on The Online Betting Industry

2021 was projected to have an even higher number of people engaging in cricket betting online. Since now the IPL is set to be back on track, with the World Cup closely following, those projected numbers may still be achieved in the latter half of the year.

The online betting industry has also managed to get more popular due to the many convenient ways that people are now able to bet online. Indians are able to look through what’s often called the online cricket satta bazar, which is much like an online betting market with various betting sites that offer cricket betting odds.

Additionally, with more and more betting sites now accepting convenient payment methods such as UPI or e-wallets like Paytm or PhonePe, it has become much easier to place bets online as well as withdraw any winnings through these fantasy gaming or online betting websites and apps. With the IPL 2021 now set to resume, we can expect that these fantasy gaming start-ups as well as betting sites that saw a dull first half of the year, will observe traffic picking up in the second half of the year.
